About Biosafety Cabinet
A biosafety cabinet provides a controlled environment for work with hazardous biological material. A well specified cabinet protects three things at once: the operator, the material being handled, and the room beyond the cabinet.
HEPA filters give controlled airflow that shields personnel from harmful aerosols, laminar flow inside the cabinet protects the sample from contamination, and an airtight design prevents hazardous material escaping into the surroundings. Which class you need depends on whether you are handling volatile chemicals as well as biological agents.
What it does
Class II A2
A recirculating air system: most of the air is filtered and recirculated within the cabinet and a portion is exhausted through a HEPA filter. Suited to general laboratory procedures with biological agents. Includes a control panel and automatic sash closure.
Class II B2
A total exhaust system: all air is HEPA filtered and exhausted through the facility ventilation, with a double wall plenum to prevent cross-contamination between the workspace and the exhaust, and a pressure balancing system for consistent airflow. Required for volatile chemicals, toxic compounds and carcinogens.
