The requirement
A chemical research laboratory has a filtration problem that a particulate-only approach does not solve. Solvent vapour and volatile organic compounds pass straight through a HEPA filter, because media designed to intercept particles does nothing to a molecule in the gas phase.
Handling that requires adsorption alongside particulate filtration, and it changes which equipment is appropriate. Where volatile chemicals are involved, a recirculating cabinet is the wrong choice regardless of how good its filters are.
Total exhaust, not recirculation
Class II B2 cabinets exhaust all air through the facility ventilation after HEPA filtration, rather than recirculating it into the workspace. This is the correct specification for volatile chemicals, toxic compounds and carcinogens.
Gas phase filtration
Activated carbon beds adsorb odours and volatile organic compounds. Combination filters handle particulate and gas phase in one position where depth is limited.
Chemically resistant construction
Stainless steel surfaces and seamless epoxy flooring resist the chemicals and the aggressive cleaning regimes that follow them.
